(JJ) African Drums -this would be particularly good with younger and life skills students - good listening material free (KD) ABC MAGIC -- this is a fun app where beginning readers can practice matching pictures/letters /sounds. It is also great for ESL learners because if you touch the picture it will identify the picture for you. This app is very interactive . MR Alphabet tracing- This is a fuinteractive way to practice tracing letters and numbers. Students can even add their own pictures and words. RR Action Movie FX- This is something that I have witness a lot of boys get into. They create a short movie and then have something that blows up in it. GT and others can use their creativity to write a script or stroy to go along with this short movie. KE Abby sight words games - sight word practice, games, word building. This will be great for literacy workstations. MR1 Audible - This is one of my favorite apps. While the app is free, it does require a monthly membership to Audible.com ($14.95 one book per month--additional titles cost more). Last year, I had a student who wanted to read grade level books but struggled due to dyslexia. This app allowed her to read along with her peers in book clubs. Well worth the price. ALG - AUDIOBOOKS for the iphone, ipad, and itouch - Love this free ap to use to introduce snippets of the classics like Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Lewis Carol, Frances Burnett, Harriet B. MH Blog -- can use for pre-assessment with 4th and 5th grade - KD Behavioral Tracker Pro - use to track a twice exceptional students behavior to help him/her develop appropriate coping strategies AW Beatwave - this app is definitely for more advanced music students to experiment with and figure out-uses sound waves; other students could use it for sheer experimentation - free (KD) Brain Quest - great for all subjects. It has all grade levelsLos you can use it for your actual level or if you need remediation have kids go to the grade level below theirs or above theirs if you need more of a challenge. JB Book Wink- great place to find books on your grade level and to read a summary of what the book is about. Great for kids that are having a hard time finding a book to read for pleasure. JB Bar chart maker...unlimited bar graphs (mr) BUMP -This app makes life too easy! You simply bump your hand to your friends hand (both are holding your i-touch) and immediately both of your contact information is transmitted into each others phone. It can also bump pictures or videos. Very cool concept for saving time but dislike that all reading and writing/typing skills are being eliminated! (MMS) Bookster- this app reads aloud simple picture books while also allowing kids to read and record their own voices. Right now the number of books is limited--hopefully there is more to come. (ALG) Brainscape- us government basics including the Constitution for 5th grade SS review as well as USgeography. Able to expand into higher-level concepts for GT and highly interested kids. KC
C Calculator - use for math practice and solving problems. Checking student work. Calculator - use for finalizing book fair receipts...JJS Calculator - use for adding and subtracting...HAB camera+. Free. Simple app to allow young children to manipulate pictures creatively KS
Mr1 choiceboard maker app for making visual schedules JS Catch Notes- Free for note taking and you can text or record your notes by voice too. Use this when their thoughts are faster than their pen, this is helpfula dn they can if they chose go back and write it if needed.(KE)
D Draw free - just like pictionary to be sent between elctronic devices spelling is crucial when guessing answers so a dictionary becomes a helpful tool. Highly motivating for poor spellers and gt kiddos who like to be creative with their drawings and challenged with level 3 abstract word choices. KC Dragon Dictation- a great app for students with dyslexia or ADD to be able totype their written work by reading their passage and the App types for the student. Great way to increase the number of printed pieces because it speeds up the time it will take for kids to type their own papers. JB. HB I agree with JB. Demibooks Composer- this app allows you to create your own book that includes animation, images, text, sound, movies, visual effects and more! Created books can be saved in Dropbox and/or iTunes. ALG Dictionary.com - this app contains nearly 2,000,000 words, definitions, synonyms, and antonyms. It also has audio pronunciation, voice-to-text search, as well as the word of the day. And, you don't need an internet connection to search words. LD Doink Animation- A great app for twice exceptional students. This lets you animate in several differnet ways. Cool APP! BD Drum Pad- this app allows m

E Evernote- use for journals- science, social studies, reading response, ect
I used it this past year for my conferring binder. App also for the itouch/iPhone...(SF) Educreations-turns your iPad into an interactive white board. There is even a record button for students to describe their ideas, which is great for twice exceptional kids (LT) Edmodo- this can be used for so many subjects. As for reading I will create a group of each book club. They can answer my questions, post their own questions, recommend books, rate, summarize, etc...(KE) Explain Everything- this app allows you to create interactive lessons by recording on-screen drawings, annotations, audio and more. Can also be used by students to explain how to do a lesson. Created videos can then be shared in Dropbox or Evernote or uploaded to teachertube. Perfect for the flipped classroom! (ALG)
F 1st Grade Reading-I Like Writng. A great way for children to read and then create their own book. The children then read and listen to what they have written. Funimal Phonics- interactive ABC app- shows the letter and says it aloud, has a picture to correspond with the letter, has the word of the picture and says it when you press it, also say the sound the letter makes. G Geo Walk 1.99 - This has some neat information about vairous things. I think it owuld be great to have because some kids love having information at their fingertips. TT Globe for iPad - this is a geography app which shows countries of the world on a 3D globe. You can manipulate the globe by dragging your finger, rotating, or zooming in and out. (ddm) Google Images - perfect for ukulele unit - tuner, chord charts, and song sheets are available KD Goodnight Safari- great interactive read aloud book for pre k or k. MH Grammar up free edition - too hard for 3rd grade even though it's free LD
GrammarJammers looks like a fun app for basic grammar practice. Seems to be leveled starting with 1st gradeand getting increasingly tougher. Anything we can do to practice grammar is good! JJ

Got a student who hates school? Give him an iPad! Article that I read that shows with technology being used in the classroom troubled students can be more engaged in the lessons and cause less problems in classroom if they feel like they are participating and on a level playing field. JB
Gflash- students can make flashcards and that make quizes. It is free and easy to use. (CC) Guitar Free -great for all levels - simulates strumming and fretting - very easy to use- free (KD) H Heart Rate This App helps to monitor your daily heart rate. Simply put finger over camera lens and wait 5-10 second. (DM)
IIdiom: series of multiple choice quizzes that vary in difficulty. It's hard to tell whether or not it's good bc you have topurchased to practice. It's a $2.99 gamble Icardsort: you can sort ideas on post it notes. Would be good for word sorts, or any sorts really. (RR) iDiary- great for end of day reflection. Multiple users, not sure if there is a limit on users. Free version doesn't allow use of camera for photo upload. ...(SF) iTalk- voice recorder--FREE. Can use to have a recording of reading fluency. A recording can be added too/amended so it could be used in collaboration. Recordings can be used in other apps and the recording can also be emailed. (SF) iEarnedThat--$1.99. Great for kids on individual behavior plans. Take any picture or image, choose the number of puzzle pieces to earn. The app makes a "puzzle" of your image. Desired behavior allow you to place pieces in the puzzle. Could be used for whole group rewards, too. RH iPrompt - Free. Like a teleprompter. Kids read the text as it rolls on the screen. You can set the speed for different levels. Great for fluency. RH iMovie - $4.99 But it works great on your iPhone / iTouch & iPad. Just one more way for kids to produce! Itunes U- I didn't know that i tunes had a free textbook section. It is great to get a little more information above the sometimes out dated science textbooks. (CC) i write words liteis an excellent tool for those struggling with fine motor! A picture appears that is spelled with 3 letters. Mr. Crab shows up and you drag your finger in numeric order to form the letters. The kids are forming the letters properly, hearing each letter name, and spelling a word, all while playing a game. If this doesn't already exist, the best "game" would be to have to hold a writing untensil while making the strokes. This would be excellent in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Many gifted students have difficulty with fine motor and in writing it appears that they have behavior issues or struggle with writing. By strengthening these muscles and ability, the students can produce in writing what they are able to do orally. BD
K. KKosmic math lite is leveled and allows for math drill instruction (AW) Kids Math Fun - app for all grades - $1.99 Has review for different math facts and concepts. There's even an option for minute math. Good practice for those facts. (LD)
Magisto - Free. I was thinking that kids could document parts of a PBL and then upload them to this app to create a short documentary. This could be used by students in small groups as they develop projects, do research, brainstorm ideas. It is a free app. (CLM) MiniMod Reading for Details Lite - Free. Students read about an inventor and their invention. They, they answer a question that involves reading for detail. The object is to get a tic-tac-toe on the answer sheet. (RH) Motion Math Zoom- free- ordering numbers by 1's, 5's, 10's. (MRid) Music Notes- this is perfect for intermediate and advanced piano students - sheet music we can easily use during our keyboard unit - free KD My Photo Note- Free this can be used for students who struggle to write out the words or come up with them, they could even draw a picture of their thinking to remember and take taht picture to add notes to it. This is best for lower grades and students who struggle to write out their thinking. KE MyABC Lite- upper and lowercase letters and sounds, tracing letters, great patterning games with shapes and ABC's
Murky Reef - This is a great app that integrates math, language arts, and science. MR1 MyTymz -lets you capture your life in the moment. It has a journal, to-do section, alerts you with reminders and allows you to track every detail of your life from places you have visited, special notes on little details about what you liked about different places you visited, etc. Sounds great for a very busy traveller. Students could possibly have fun with this an on going workstation where they read about where other children have visited and then add their experiences on it. (MMS)
N National Geographic Explorer - supports science and lang. arts standards with authentic and highly interactive content with videos, audio, photos, and leveled text that engages while it teaches. This could be used for any animal or geography study. ddm Notability - Use to take notes and respond as you read. AW Not the Hole Story - Free. Drawing conclusions/critical thinking. Incomplete stores that make the reader come up with the ending. Clues are given to lead them in the right direction. These are like brain teasers...fun, require thinking out of the box. (RH) Notes - I looked at all the note-taking apps. This one comes with the iPad. You can type out notes and email them as needed. This is simple, easy to use, and it already comes with the iPad. (LD) This is a wonderful tool for students and it makes it even more fun to email them to themselves or their teacher. KE This would be great to use with small group research projects in a workstation approach and then later have the students use the notes as a basis to share/teach their part of the topic or skill. (CLM) Noteplus- Lets students write a note with their finger. I was thinking about using this during shared readings. As I read, one of my little ones could write a symbol when they have a thought, then share it with the class. Shared thinking that day. The app would give them special thinking powers! (RR) The lite version is the one I looked at, and it seems easy to use and it is colorful. They can share notes (when appropriate :)) and save notes. (KE)

P Pearl Divers - Ideal for upper elementary. This is a good review of number operations and standards, ways of representing numbers, commonly used fractions, locations of fractions on a number line, as well as comparing and ordering fractions. So, strap on your diving suit and head to the sea! Find the valuable pearls, but watch out for the eel! LD Popplet Lite - Free app. This app allows the user to make a graphic organizer of what they are reading. You could use it to make a concept map of nonfiction material, describe characters, even summarize. RH Professor Garfield Fact or Opinion - Presented in comic book format, readers learn to identify fact and opinion. Also includes information about internet safety. Could be used as a flipped learning lesson. RH
Pencilandpaper. Note taking app that is most like the real thing....color,drawings,etc. Good for journals Puppet Pals- This is a story telling APP that uses sock puppets. Students could do book reviews, or even present a report with sock puppets. (JJ) Poetry Maker- This is a good App for making poetry you can use it to build reading skills manner other than reading fiction. (JJ) Panoramio - This is part of the Google Apps page. You can examine photos from all around the world. This makes a good evaluation tool for kids to actually see the difference in places around the world, examine landforms they way they really are, without having to leave the classroom. (LD) Pandora - create your own listening library by choosing musical selections - would use for genres and composers my students are less familiar with free (KD) PPPIano- ear training for way advanced students - would love to challenge my more advanced RCE music students on this one! free (KD) Phonics awareness - great phonemic awareness activities including blending, segmenting, recognizing short vowel sounds, etc. This will be great in a literacy workstation. MR1 Planets-great for phases of themoon, planet locationand great facts! RR PenUltimate- the ultimate handwriting, note taking app. Using either your finger or a stylus, you can write and draw in ten colors. You can choose either plain, lined, or graph paper. You can also insert photos. This would be the perfect app for primary students to make mini-books on. Intermediate students could also make books, but the sky's the limit. After creating a notebook, you can email it or store it in Evernote or Dropbox. Super cool! The only thing missing is audio--maybe it will be added in future updates. ALG
Q Quizful HD - Fun for GT kids ages 4-7. Interesting questions with audio support and illustrations for "wiz kids." - KC
R Remarks - $5 Write notes and annotate PDF's. Can bring PDF's into the app with google docs. Pen tool lets you draw freebhand. AW
Read and Write Letters, Sound, and Combinations - perfect for learning new sounds. HB Read me stories - this is one of those sites where kids can hear and interact with books. These are the sites that will help my young readers tiresome quality reading time. (RR)
S- Songify - great for life skills students - say lyrics and they are automatically put to music - free(KD) splash math- for 1st grade- tens and ones, base ten blocks, 100's chart, et MRidner Splashmath4-agood for skill practice; algebra costs .99 and all costs 9.99-CLM Sock Puppets - The app is free. You need a microphone to record, but not if you use the iPad because it already has a mic. Great for all grades! Lets you make a puppet show about any topic. An idea suggested was to let kids create book reports, but there are more uses. Kids talk and the puppets use different voices to share the report. LD Same Sound Spellbound - Free. Cute game to help kids learn homophones. Hoping it includes their, there and they're. RH Soundhound -free- all kids will love to use this when they come upon a bit of free time - plays the most current popular songs of the week (KD) Sight Words List -free great for small group or stations-has the DOLCH word list and you can customize lists for different learners (LT)
Sentence builder for iPad - Thoughtnthis would be a terrific center when working on on new sight words in small group. HB http://www.schrockguide.net/ipads-in-the-classroom.html JS Sight cards - free. Great for primary sight word practice. Kids can flag words they have trouble with to practice again later. (MR1) Slice It! - gives you geographic shapes and asks you to slice it in half. This would be amazing for work with symmetry. There is a free version, but the full version cost $.99. It's fun and practical. (ddm) StoryKit allows students to edit, rewrite, record sounds and add new illustrations to 4 known books. Might be goof for fractured fairy tales as the students can change up the stories and then publish! Show Me Interactive Whiteboard - turns your iPad into an interactive whiteboard with capability of sound. Students can show 'how' on problem solving. (ddm) Studious -NoteTab- this is a fun place to take notes with drawing options (MR) Sentence Reading Magic -this free app allows you to read words, read sentences, and build sentences, too...very fun!!! Stack the States- This app costs .99 cents but is well worth it. It can be addicting trying to complete all of the levels meanwhile learning not only the states but also the capitals, shapes,abbreviations, nicknames, flags and more! (MMS) Sticker Sudoku -this would be a great app to warm up our kids brains before a problem solver of a problem solving lesson. (MMS) Splice-Video Editor- Free: This app allows users to make a video on the iPad. With this app, you can "assemble video clips, music, photos, visual effects, text, audio mixing, creative expression, along with exacting synchronization of sound effects and voice-overs. This seems like the perfect app for book trailers and inquiry projects. (ALG) Speller- Free Spell Checker- Designed with the dyselxia student in mind, this app allows you to type in a word phonetically (based on how it sounds) and it will come up with a list of possible words. Also provides defintions so that kids can double check the meaning. (ALG)
T Tell time lite is good for young kids learning to tell time, set time
KE Telling Time- geared more for kids beginning to learn to tell time. Time to hour and half hour. (MRid)
Toontastic - This app costs $1.99 and you can buy upgrades, but it's worth it. You can make cartoons. Just push the record button, move your characters onscreen, and tell your stories. It follows the story arc and has kids put stories together one piece at a time according to the parts of the story arc. Once you're done Toontastic plays back your animation and voice. LD
Three Little Pigs and the Secrets of a Popup Book - The app reads this book. It has music and is very interactive. The really cool feature of this app is that it shows how the popup book works. Kids can see behind the pages to understand how the characters or pictures move or jump off the page. It's lots of fun! It does cost $3.99. Too bad it's not free. (LD)
Ten frame fill - Kids can drag dots to ten frames to build numbers. This will be great for a math tub! MR1 3-D Interactive Pop-up Book -There are some great fairy tales that can be integrated into a fairytale unit and can help to teach someone who is struggling with comprehension. (MMS)

i write words liteis an excellent tool for those struggling with fine motor! A picture appears that is spelled with 3 letters. Mr. Crab shows up and you drag your finger in numeric order to form the letters. The kids are forming the letters properly, hearing each letter name, and spelling a word, all while playing a game. If this doesn't already exist, the best "game" would be to have to hold a writing untensil while making the strokes. This would be excellent in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Many gifted students have difficulty with fine motor and in writing it appears that they have behavior issues or struggle with writing. By strengthening these muscles and ability, the students can produce in writing what they are able to do orally. BD

Notes - I looked at all the note-taking apps. This one comes with the iPad. You can type out notes and email them as needed. This is simple, easy to use, and it already comes with the iPad. (LD) This is a wonderful tool for students and it makes it even more fun to email them to themselves or their teacher. KE This would be great to use with small group research projects in a workstation approach and then later have the students use the notes as a basis to share/teach their part of the topic or skill. Noteplus- Lets students write a note with their finger. I was thinking about using this during shared readings. As I read, one of my little ones could write a symbol when they have a thought, then share it with the class. Shared thinking that day. The app would give them special thinking powers! This is a good review of number operations and standards, ways of representing numbers, commonly used fractions, locations of fractions on a number line, as well as comparing and ordering fractions. So, strap on your diving suit and head to the sea! Find the valuable pearls, but watch out for the eel! LD
Popplet Lite - Free app. This app allows the user to make a graphic organizer of what they are reading. You could use it to make a concept map of nonfiction material, describe characters, even summarize. RH
Professor Garfield Fact or Opinion - Presented in comic book format, readers learn to identify fact and opinion. Also includes information about internet safety. Could be used as a flipped learning lesson. RH

Panoramio - This is part of the Google Apps page. You can examine photos from all around the world. This makes a good evaluation tool for kids to actually see the difference in places around the world, examine landforms they way they really are, without having to leave the classroom. (LD)

PenUltimate- the ultimate handwriting, note taking app. Using either your finger or a stylus, you can write and draw in ten colors. You can choose either plain, lined, or graph paper. You can also insert photos. This would be the perfect app for primary students to make mini-books on. Intermediate students could also make books, but the sky's the limit. After creating a notebook, you can email it or store it in Evernote or Dropbox. Super cool! The only thing missing is audio--maybe it will be added in future updates. ALG

Three Little Pigs and the Secrets of a Popup Book - The app reads this book. It has music and is very interactive. The really cool feature of this app is that it shows how the popup book works. Kids can see behind the pages to understand how the characters or pictures move or jump off the page. It's lots of fun! It does cost $3.99. Too bad it's not free. (LD)
Ten frame fill - Kids can drag dots to ten frames to build numbers. This will be great for a math tub! MR1
